Simply put, Simon Joyner may be the best songwriter in America today. Simon is from the old school- a young story-teller with an wise, old soul... a small town Nebraskan who is every man. Since the early 90's he has been singing tales as quietly as a children's librarian, but they speak volumes of insight into human emotion; lyrically, his songs paint haunting portraits that rattle the mind and allow the listener to inspect life with greater awareness. Hotel Lives is Joyner's most recent effort in a nine record career that has produced many remarkable songs. This record, from start to finish, has to be Joyner's most intoxicating and powerful work of the entire catalog. Once again produced by Michael Krassner (The Lofty Pillars, Boxhead Ensemble) with arrangements by Fred Lonberg-Holm (Terminal 4), Hotel Lives mixes stark beautiful tones with sparse arrangements to highlight but not overshadow Joyner's pained vocals.
